URS4 engine internals

Postby dodger21 » Tue Feb 02, 2016 10:13 pm

I know 034 Motorsports have internals but I'm seeing if you guys know of anyone else?

I'm 99% sure I'm buying one this weekend and stock isn't going to cut what I have in mind.

Nice find. Does this mean that we will see you up here this year?

Maybe. Depends on if I get it running this year. I found out this is a well known UrS4. The daughter of a well known Canadian tuner. They currently own around 10 of these. His current one makes only 490AWHP. He gave me a few forums to post to in my quest for 1000hp. It'll be going up in stages but the bottom will be built for over 1000hp. This year will be tuned and WH1C Holset I have laying around. Maybe even a fuel pump. Should get me to 300hp. Next year will be head work and injectors along with E85 tuning. And 2 years will be big turbo and big tune.

I have an H1C with the 18cm exhaust that needs a rebuild. But no 35s

So doing further reading and talking to those with 1000awhp builds, I'm lowering my build to 600 AWHP. After this point the cars cubic dollar needs become even more apparent. 10k rpm capabilities, custom dampers, custom cam and head work, dry sump are all needed.

And in all honesty 600 hp is no joke.

What is the percent of hp loss or gain with AWD vs non AWD.

There'd be more loss because you add quite a bit more rotational mass with 2 extra CV shafts, frictional loss due to the gearbox and wheel bearings. However you gain traction which means more power applied to the asphalt. Once you go really fast, you have to do suspension tuning and you start losing to RWD vehicles because of weight transfers and tuning a suspension for it.

First things first. Get it running again. I know I need to rebuild so the bottom end is getting forged rods, coated bearings, ARP studs through out, and forged pistons. Also getting a new cog crank pulley as stock ones tend to make micro cracks they'll eventually become macro cracks which leads to bent valves.

Deciding on either H-beams or I-beams. Can't decide yet....

So I came to a stand still. I need a S wrench for that blasted nut for the downpipe. I tried everything but I can't get it. So I'm buying one and hopefully it'll be here midweek. Now, on to the disconcerting bits.

I thought I'd pull the plugs and see if the noise is truly from the bottom end OR a valve kiss. I just wanted to verify once more before I pulled it.

So I pulled off the coil packs. Hmm. The front and rear bolts were just sitting there. The center 2 were tightened down.

So I noticed a bunch of oil in #5 and #1 spark plug. Pull the VC off. I found this.

Looks like the front bolt snapped off in the head. Looks like they GROUND it flat and didn't center punch the bolt. Then the bit walked to the nice soft aluminum and they the drilled through the side of it. Instead of putting in threads VIA tap, they just rammed a bolt in there.

So I started pulling everything off the front end. The AC had no pressure so I'm thinking the condenser might have a pin hole leak. I pulled the radiator and I'd have to say there's more water than coolant unless this red stuff separates?

Image

I'm at the point of needing to unbolt the mounts, the trans, and the last downpipe nut before pulling it.

BTW, once I figured out how the electrical connectors separated, why hasn't EVERYONE done it that way?! So easy.

I didn't forget about you guys.

Had 10 days of flu, bought a new car to replace the quickly dying Subaru, work. Ugh.
